Diversion Safes

Diversion safes are items that look like ordinary household objects, but are actually storage containers for valuables. They offer a completely different way of storing jewelry, money, and other expensive items. While some people prefer to have a cast iron safe in plain view, a diversion safe attempts to blend into its surroundings. It could be a can of “shaving cream” that stores items inside, or it could be a hollowed-out encyclopedia on the bookshelf. It might be a can of “tomato soup” in the kitchen cupboard that is hiding thousands of dollars of diamonds.

When thieves break into a home to steal valuables, they are in a rush and only look in common areas where people hide items: jewelry boxes, drawers and under mattresses. Their eyes go right past the fake “Highlighter marker” on the desk that might be holding a few hundred dollars (or drugs). Diversion safes are a great way to hide your things in plain view because no one will think to look inside them. The best type of diversion safes are those that look exactly like a “real” product but have plenty of storage space inside and a lock mechanism.

Even if you do not have cash or jewelry to hide, you undoubtedly have financial papers, birth certificates and other forms of paperwork you want to keep safe from prying eyes. These items are often far more valuable than a few hundred dollars of gold or silver. People could steal tangible items from your home, but they could also steal your identity, which is much worse.

Identity theft is a growing problem in the U.S. People are casual about putting their Social Security numbers on documents and leaving them lying around the house or office. Be safe and smart and place your valuables in a diversion safe.
