Can Alarm Signs and Stickers Protect Your Home?

Home and car break-ins are becoming increasingly common, even in so-called “safe neighborhoods” and gated communities. However, you can be pro-active and take steps to protect your belongings. Lock your doors, do not leave expensive items in plain view of a car, and park in well-lighted areas. If you can afford it, purchase a car and/or home alarm system.

Almost every home and car alarm company gives an owner “warning stickers” to affix on the windows. The stickers are part advertisement and part security, because they warn would-be burglars to stay away. However, stickers themselves can be a deterrent, even without an alarm. Thieves are more likely to stay away from a home with a large “Security System” sticker on the front window and go for the house without any warning labels. It is the same situation with cars.

Warning stickers are exceptionally inexpensive compared with actual alarm systems. If you are on a tight budget but want to do something to protect your house and/or vehicle, purchase some realistic-looking stickers to reduce the chances of a break-in. Place these stickers where people can easily view them from a distance. Stickers may not dissuade every criminal from attempting a break-in, but they will reduce the risk. Another “dummy” device you could purchase is a fake LED light kit for your car. It flashes a red light every few seconds and looks just like an actual car alarm system. These work well in conjunction with a dummy sticker to warn off criminals.

Your home and vehicle are probably the two most expensive items you own, so take measures to protect them. Even if you cannot afford a $100 alarm system, you can probably afford $10 for an LED light kit and some fake security stickers and yard signs.
